Unlocking Tight End Potential: The 'Chain Reaction' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Mountain View MavericksยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 5A tight ends like Mountain View Mavericks, dominating in the red zone requires a combination of speed, agility, and strength. The 'Chain Reaction' drill is designed to improve TE's ability to quickly release from the line, accelerate through a tight window, and secure the catch. Set up 3-4 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Start with 3 sets of 5 reps. Have the TE start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, change direction, and accelerate to the third. Focus on quick feet, explosive acceleration, and securing the catch with both hands. Coaching cues: 'Chain reaction' means rapid-fire movements, 'hands up' emphasizes securing the catch. This drill translates to game performance by improving TEs' ability to quickly get open and make plays in traffic.
