Quarterback Readiness: St. Rita Mustangs' Pre-Season Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Rita MustangsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the St. Rita Mustangs prepare for another 7A championship run, quarterback coach Mike O'Brien stresses the importance of accuracy under pressure. To build this skill, O'Brien implements the 'Quick Release' drill. Players start in a shotgun formation, 10 yards back from the line of scrimmage. On the snap, they must quickly drop back and release the ball to a target receiver 10 yards downfield. The twist: the receiver is moving at a 45-degree angle, forcing the QB to adjust their throw on the fly. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Quick eyes, quick feet, quick release.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the high-pressure situations quarterbacks face, such as escaping sacks and making throws on the run.
