Shamrock Speed: Westfield's WR Drill for Separation

๐Ÿ“ Westfield ShamrocksยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Westfield Shamrocks' wide receivers can expect to see a focus on speed and agility training. One key drill is the 'Shamrock Shuffle,' a 3-part exercise designed to improve quick cuts and separation from defenders. Begin with a 10-yard cone course, where players perform 3 sets of 10 reps of a zig-zag run through the cones. Next, have players perform a 5-yard shuttle run, changing direction on a dime to simulate a defender's reaction. Finally, add a 2-point stance and have players explode off the line, sprinting 10 yards downfield. Coaching cues include 'inside-out' footwork and 'eyes up' to maintain focus. This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation and accelerate past defenders.
