Building the Foundation: Trinity Shamrocks' OL Power Position Drill
The Trinity Shamrocks' 6A football program is known for its dominant line play, and a key component of their success is the Power Position Drill. This drill is designed to improve OL players' ability to anchor and control the point of attack, essential for success in the trenches. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps: (1) Players start in a 3-point stance with their feet shoulder-width apart, then explosively drive their feet into the ground and extend their arms to simulate a block. Coaching cue: 'Drive your feet, extend your arms.' (2) Players then transition into a pass-blocking stance, focusing on quick footwork and hand placement. Coaching cue: 'Quick feet, soft hands.' (3) Players finish with a 1-on-1 pass-blocking drill, emphasizing the importance of staying balanced and controlled. This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to control the point of attack and protect the quarterback.
