Lock Down: 5A CBs Get Ready for the Gridiron with the 'Shadow' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Catholic High BearsยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Catholic High Bears cornerbacks are sharpening their skills with the 'Shadow' drill, a high-intensity workout designed to improve reaction time and coverage techniques. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players line up 5 yards off the receiver, who starts at the line of scrimmage. On the snap, the CB must quickly close the gap to the receiver, staying within 1 yard of their hip. Coaching cues emphasize 'eyes on the receiver' and 'stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing CBs to react quickly to the receiver's release and maintain proper coverage technique. By mastering the 'Shadow' drill, Catholic High's top corners will be ready to lock down opposing receivers come September.
