Tight End Training: 'Slant and Go' Drill for Everett Crimson Tide

๐Ÿ“ Everett Crimson TideยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top Div I programs like Everett Crimson Tide, tight ends need to be versatile and explosive on the field. To improve their skills, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Slant and Go' drill. This drill focuses on quick releases, separation, and speed. Here's how to run it: Set up cones 5 yards apart in a zig-zag pattern. Have the TE start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, making a sharp cut to the left or right. Immediately accelerate to the next cone, mimicking a 'go' route. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, rest for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick release, eyes up, and go!' and 'Separate, don't just cut!' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to create separation and get down the field quickly, making them a threat in the passing game.
