Unlock Speed: The 3-Step Shuttle Drill for 5A S Players

๐Ÿ“ West Point Green WaveยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The West Point Green Wave's S players are gearing up for a dominant season, and a key component of their pre-season training is the 3-Step Shuttle Drill. This drill targets acceleration, deceleration, and change-of-direction speed, essential skills for any S player. To run the drill, set up three cones in a triangular formation, with the player starting at the center cone. On the whistle, the player sprints to the first cone (Step 1), then immediately changes direction to the second cone (Step 2), and finally accelerates to the third cone (Step 3). Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet!' and 'Change direction quickly!' This drill translates to game performance by improving the player's ability to quickly close gaps and pursue ball carriers.
