Boosting 6A Kickoff Coverage with the 'Warrior Shuffle' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Oak Grove WarriorsยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Oak Grove Warriors football camp, special teams coach, Mark Davis, has been putting his kick coverage unit through a high-intensity drill to prepare them for the upcoming season. The 'Warrior Shuffle' drill involves three players, each starting 10 yards apart. The kicker begins at the 30-yard line and kicks the ball to the first player, who then shuffles 5 yards to the left and right, before shuffling 5 yards back to the starting point. The second player repeats the same shuffle pattern, while the third player, the 'chaser,' sprints to the ball and attempts to make a tackle. The drill is repeated for 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 2-minute rest in between. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kick coverage unit's ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles in space.
