Speed and Agility for 6A S Players: The Zig-Zag Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Madison Central JaguarsยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Madison Central Jaguars' summer training camp, S players are putting in the work with the zig-zag shuttle drill. This high-intensity exercise targets quick changes of direction and acceleration, essential for S players in 6A programs. To set up the drill, place cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. S players start at one end, then weave through the cones, accelerating to top speed before changing direction. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'stay low and fast' and 'penetrate the cone.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and cover wide receivers. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, allowing them to stay one step ahead of opponents.
