FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip
At AA programs like Mandan Braves, tight ends need to develop the skills to outmaneuver defenders and secure crucial catches. One effective drill to achieve this is the 'Slant and Go' route. Divide the group into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts 5 yards off the line, with the defender in a press position. On the whistle, the receiver runs a 3-yard slant, then immediately cuts to a 5-yard out route. The defender must react quickly to the change in direction. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Keep your eyes on the quarterback' for the receiver and 'Stay low and react quickly' for the defender. This drill translates to game performance by teaching tight ends to quickly adjust to changing defensive schemes and secure catches in tight spaces.
