Kearney Bearcats Linebacker Drill: 'Read and React'
FridayNightPulse's Training Tip of the Week: Help your B-program linebackers improve their reaction time and tackling skills with the 'Read and React' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the quick decision-making and aggressive pursuit that are essential for linebackers in the NSAA. Set up a series of cones or markers to create a zig-zag course. Divide your linebackers into pairs, with one player as the ball carrier and the other as the tackler. On the coach's signal, the ball carrier weaves through the course while the tackler reacts to the ball carrier's moves. The tackler's goal is to stay in the hole and make a tackle. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Read the ball carrier's eyes,' 'Stay in the hole,' and 'Finish the tackle.' This drill translates to game performance by improving your linebackers' ability to read the offense and react quickly to changing situations.
