Eagles' Eyes: CB Drill for St. Edward's Top Cornerbacks

๐Ÿ“ St. Edward EaglesยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, St. Edward's top cornerbacks are putting in extra work on a specific drill designed to improve their reaction time and foot quickness. The 'Shuttle and Close' drill consists of three sets of 10 reps. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line and back, before immediately closing to the ball carrier at full speed. Coaching cues emphasize explosive acceleration out of the backpedal and rapid change of direction. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to quickly close on receivers and stay in phase with their routes. By practicing this drill, Eagles' cornerbacks will be better equipped to handle the speed and agility of their opponents this fall.
