Quarterback Readiness: Stillwater Pioneers' 3-Step Drop Drill

๐Ÿ“ Stillwater PioneersยทFriday, July 31, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at 5A programs like the Stillwater Pioneers need to be prepared for any defensive look. To improve their accuracy and decision-making, coaches can implement the 3-Step Drop Drill. This drill involves three steps: 1) drop back 3 yards, 2) take 2 steps to the left, and 3) take 1 step to the right. On the third step, the quarterback should be in a throwing position. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the target' and 'throw with conviction.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing quarterbacks to read the defense and make quick decisions. It also helps develop their footwork and throwing mechanics, essential for success in the pocket.
