Tiger-Ready Quarterbacks: Mastering the 'Read and React' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Oscar Smith TigersยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Oscar Smith High School, our 6A Tigers are gearing up for another championship season. Quarterbacks are a crucial part of the team's success, and we're focusing on a drill that will help them improve their decision-making and reaction time. The 'Read and React' drill involves three quarterbacks, each with a partner, standing 10 yards apart. One quarterback will read the defense and react accordingly, while the other quarterback will provide a target for a pass. Set up three stations with different defensive looks: man-to-man, zone, and blitz. Each quarterback will complete 3 sets of 10 reps at each station, focusing on quick reads and accurate passes. Coaching cues include 'Read the eyes, not the body' and 'React to the ball, not the defender.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating high-pressure situations and forcing quarterbacks to make split-second decisions.
