Rice Green Knights QBs: Mastering the 'Quick Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Rice Green KnightsยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Green Knights prepare for the upcoming season, quarterback development is a top priority. One effective drill to improve accuracy and decision-making is the 'Quick Release' drill. Set up a series of 5-yard cones in a zig-zag pattern, with a target at the end. QBs will start at the first cone, drop back 3-4 steps, and release a pass to a receiver at the target. Focus on a quick, smooth release, with the ball leaving the hand before the QB's eyes leave the receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick release, eyes on the target, let it fly.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching QBs to release the ball quickly, even under pressure, and trust their receivers to make plays. It's a valuable skill for D-II QBs looking to make a statement this season.
