Unleashing the Deep Ball Threat: A WR Drill for AAAA Programs
The deep ball is a game-changer in high school football, and for AAAA programs like Morgantown Mohigans, mastering this aspect of the passing game is crucial. To develop WRs who can stretch defenses, we're introducing the 'Fly Route Sprint Drill'. Set up two cones 20 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards beyond the second. Start with 3 sets of 5 reps. WRs will sprint to the first cone, then plant their outside foot and accelerate to the second cone. As they reach the second cone, they'll plant again and sprint to the third cone, finishing with a sharp cut. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands' and 'Run the route, don't just sprint.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation and finish plays downfield.
