Boost Your Kickoff Coverage: The 'Rip and React' Drill for K Players

๐Ÿ“ Natrona County MustangsยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As we head into the 2026 season, the Natrona County Mustangs' special teams unit is looking to improve their kickoff coverage. One key drill to help achieve this goal is the 'Rip and React' drill. This exercise targets the quick reaction and agility of kick coverage specialists. To set up the drill, divide your K players into pairs with one player as the 'rip' player and the other as the 'react' player. The 'rip' player starts 10 yards deep, while the 'react' player begins 5 yards back. On the whistle, the 'rip' player sprints towards the 'react' player, who must quickly react and pursue. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between. This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick reaction and pursuit required to tackle the ball carrier on a kickoff return.
