Agility Ladder Drill for Linebackers: Improving Speed and Agility at Sheridan Broncs
Linebackers at 4A programs like the Sheridan Broncs need to be quick and agile to stay with opponents in the open field. One effective drill to improve speed and agility is the agility ladder drill. Set up an agility ladder on the field and have linebackers perform the following sequence: lateral shuffles, carioca drills, and high knees. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps and gradually increase to 5 sets of 15 reps. Coaching cues include keeping the feet close to the ladder, exploding out of each step, and maintaining a low center of gravity. This drill translates to game performance by improving a linebacker's ability to quickly change direction and close gaps, making them more effective in pursuit and coverage. This drill can be incorporated into a linebacker's pre-season training regimen to improve overall performance.
